Waiting on Wednesday #15

This weekly feature is hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine.

My Pick

Synopsis from Goodreads
Vada Bergen is broke, the black sheep of her family, and moving a thousand miles away from home for grad school, but she’s got the two things she loves most: her art, and her best friend and soulmate, Ellis Carraway. Elle and Vada have a friendship so consuming it’s hard to tell where one girl ends and the other begins. It’s intense. It’s a little codependent. And nothing can tear them apart.

Until an accident on an icy winter road changes everything.

Vada is left deeply scarred, both emotionally and physically. Her once-promising art career is cut short. And Ellis pulls away, unwilling to talk about that night. Everything Vada loved is gone.

She’s got nothing left to lose.

So when she meets a smooth-talking lothario who offers to set her up as a cam girl, she can’t say no. All Vada has to do is spend a couple hours each night taking off her clothes on webcam, and the “tips” come pouring in.

It’s all just kinky fun till a client gets serious. “Blue” is mysterious, alluring, and more interested in Vada’s life than her body. Online, they open up to each other intimately. Blue helps her heal. And he pays well, but he wants her all to himself. No more cam shows. She agrees, because she’s starting to fall for him. And when he asks to meet, she says yes. Because she’s dying to know the real man behind the keyboard.

Even if one of his conditions is to bring Ellis. The girl who wants nothing to do with her anymore.

Now Vada must confront the past she’s been running from. A past full of devastating secrets—those of others, and those she’s been keeping from herself…

My Thoughts

Book Link: Goodreads

Synopsis from Goodreads
What We Left Behind follows a teen couple—Gretchen, who identifies as a lesbian, and Toni, who identifies as genderqueer—as they struggle to stay together during their first year in college, despite the growing rift caused by distance and Toni's shifting gender identity.

My Thoughts
You may remember how much I enjoyed Talley's previous book, Lies We Tell Ourselves, so when I heard about her new book, I ran straight to Goodreads and looked it up. YAAAS, finally a story about a genderqueer character. That alone makes me excited. There are so few books out there that feature a genderqueer character.

Not to mention, look at that gorgeous cover. I cannot wait to get my hands on this book!

So what are some books you're excited for?

Waiting on Wednesday #13

This weekly feature is hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine.

My Pick
Goodreads

Synopsis from Goodreads:
A boldly surreal novel from one of the best YA writers working today.

Four talented teenagers are traumatized-coping with grief, surviving date rape, facing the anxiety of standardized tests and the neglect of self-absorbed adults--and they'll do anything to escape the pressure. They'll even build an invisible helicopter, to fly far away to a place where everyone will understand them... until they learn the only way to escape reality is to face it head-on.

My Thoughts
Yes, gimmie this book. It looks like something I'll absolutely fall in love with. It involves tough stuff, which is one of my favorite things in books. Plus it's written by A. S. King, someone who I've heard a lot about, but whose books I have not read yet. That cover is just so simple and classic. Thankfully I don't have to wait long to read this book.

So what books are you eagerly awaiting?

Waiting on Wednesday #12

This feature is hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine. It is a way to showcase upcoming releases that we're excited about.

My Pick

Synopsis
Violin prodigy Etta Spencer had big plans for her future, but a tragedy has put her once-bright career at risk. Closely tied to her musical skill, however, is a mysterious power she doesn't even know she has. When her two talents collide during a stressful performance, Etta is drawn back hundreds of years through time

Etta wakes, confused and terrified, in 1776, in the midst a fierce sea battle. Nicholas Carter, the handsome young prize master of a privateering ship, has been hired to retrieve Etta and deliver her unharmed to the Ironwoods, a powerful family in the Colonies--the very same one that orchestrated her jump back, and one Nicholas himself has ties to. But discovering she can time travel is nothing compared to the shock of discovering the true reason the Ironwoods have ensnared her in their web.

Another traveler has stolen an object of untold value from them, and, if Etta can find it, they will return her to her own time. Out of options, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the mysterious traveler. But as they draw closer to each other and the end of their search, the true nature of the object, and the dangerous game the Ironwoods are playing, comes to light -- threatening to separate her not only from Nicholas, but her path home... forever.

My Thoughts
Um, how the heck did I not know much about this book until recently? Time travel is one of my favorite things in the entire universe. Plus, you all know that I love gorgeous covers, and this one is definitely beautiful. I also love reading books about musical prodigies. So combining musical prodigies with time travel is a great way to get me to read the book.

I'm so envious of all the people at BEA who nabbed a copy of this one.

So what books are you waiting on?

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

My Thoughts
I have not finished The Grisha Trilogy yet, but I do have all three books. I am really excited that Bardugo is doing another series in the same world. I am really excited to see how it all plays out. Plus, look at that COVER? I'm obsessed with covers and this one is awesome in it's simplicity. September cannot get here fast enough.

Waiting on Wednesday #10

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine. It is a way to showcase upcoming releases that we're excited about.

My Pick

Synopsis from Goodreads
A surprising, utterly romantic companion to My Life Next Door—great for fans of Sarah Dessen and Jenny Han

Tim Mason was The Boy Most Likely To find the liquor cabinet blindfolded, need a liver transplant, and drive his car into a house

Alice Garrett was The Girl Most Likely To . . . well, not date her little brother’s baggage-burdened best friend, for starters.

For Tim, it wouldn’t be smart to fall for Alice. For Alice, nothing could be scarier than falling for Tim. But Tim has never been known for making the smart choice, and Alice is starting to wonder if the “smart” choice is always the right one. When these two crash into each other, they crash hard.

Then the unexpected consequences of Tim’s wild days come back to shock him. He finds himself in a situation that isn’t all it appears to be, that he never could have predicted . . . but maybe should have.

And Alice is caught in the middle.

Told in Tim’s and Alice’s distinctive, disarming, entirely compelling voices, this novel is for readers of The Spectacular NowNick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and Paper Towns.

My Reaction
My Life Next Door was one of my favorite books that I read in 2014 and when I heard that Tim and Alice were going to get their own story, I was stoked. Beyond stoked actually. It needs to be August now. I don't know how I am going to wait another 3 months until it's in my hands. I may need to reread My Life Next Door in preparation for Tim and Alice's story. The cover is perfect. I love it, and it seems perfect for this book. My guess is that a lot of it will be fluffy with a bit of drama thrown in. I've been distancing myself from the fluffy contemporaries lately, so this should be interesting

My Pick
Book Link: Goodreads

Synopsis from Goodreads
Nat's not an alcoholic. She doesn't have a problem. Everybody parties, everybody does stupid things, like get in their car when they can barely see. Still, with six months of court-ordered AA meetings required, her days of vodka-filled water bottles are over.

Unfortunately her old friends want the party girl or nothing. Even her up-for-anything ex seems more interested in rehashing the past than actually helping Nat.

But then a recovering alcoholic named Joe inserts himself into Nat’s life and things start looking up. Joe is funny, smart, and calls her out in a way no one ever has.

He’s also older. A lot older.

Nat’s connection to Joe is overwhelming but so are her attempts to fit back into her old world, all while battling the constant urge to crack a bottle and blur that one thing she's been desperate to forget.

Now in order to make a different kind of life, Natalie must pull together her broken parts and learn to fight for herself.

My Reaction
Christa Desir is an auto-read author for me, so to see this book and that cover with a release date in 2016, makes me sad. But really, gimmie this book. It looks like classic Christa, which makes me super excited for it. I honestly don't know how I am going to wait seven more months for it. It looks dark, gritty and realistic, in other words, right up my alley!

So what books are you most looking forward to?

Waiting on Wednesday #8

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine. It's a way to showcase upcoming releases that we're excited about.

My pick
Book Link: Goodreads

Synopsis from Goodreads
This innovative, heartfelt debut novel tells the story of a girl who’s literally allergic to the outside world. When a new family moves in next door, she begins a complicated romance that challenges everything she’s ever known. The narrative unfolds via vignettes, diary entries, texts, charts, lists, illustrations, and more.

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

My Reaction
If the synopsis of a book mentions a disease, I already know I have to have it. Bonus points if it's considered a rare disease. YA books that feature a character with a disease are some of my favorite things in the book world. Oh my goodness, I cannot wait for this book. It sounds exactly like a me book. I am massively excited for this book and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Waiting On Wednesday #5 Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine. It's a way to showcase an upcoming release that we are excited for.

Why? Why did Liz Emerson decide that the world would be better off without her? Why did she give up? Vividly told by an unexpected and surprising narrator, this heartbreaking and nonlinear novel pieces together the short and devastating life of Meridian High’s most popular junior girl. Mass, acceleration, momentum, force—Liz didn’t understand it in physics, and even as her Mercedes hurtles toward the tree, she doesn’t understand it now. How do we impact one another? How do our actions reverberate? What does it mean to be a friend? To love someone? To be a daughter? Or a mother? Is life truly more than cause and effect? Amy Zhang’s haunting and universal story will appeal to fans of Lauren Oliver, Gayle Forman, and Jay Asher.

My Reaction
This book looks amazing and I'm already hearing some early buzz going around even though it doesn't release until September. I do have a very eclectic taste and this definitely seems like a book I'll love. Excited for it and eagerly awaiting September so that I can grab a copy of this book. It's gonna be a long wait but I think this book will be worth it.

My Reaction
How am I just now hearing about this book? It looks amazing and totally up my alley. In an upcoming review for Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern, I make a point to mention how underrepresented the teens with disabilities are in YA books.  In Summer on the Short Bus, we take a spoiled teenager and send her off to work at a camp for disabled teens. So YAY, more teenagers with disabilities are coming up in YA. That makes me super happy. I am so excited to read this book and I really wish it was out already.

The Jewel means wealth. The Jewel means beauty. The Jewel means royalty. But for girls like Violet, the Jewel means servitude. Not just any kind of servitude. Purchased at the surrogacy auction by the Duchess of the Lake and greeted with a slap to the face, Violet (now known only as #197) quickly learns of the brutal truths that lie beneath the Jewel’s glittering facade: the cruelty, backstabbing, and hidden violence that have become the royal way of life.

Violet must accept the ugly realities of her existence . . . and try to stay alive. But then a forbidden romance erupts between Violet and a handsome gentleman hired as a companion to the Duchess’s petulant niece. My Reaction
I absolutely love the cover. Yes it does remind me of the covers for The Selection series by Kiera Cass, but the book sounds amazing. I really think that it has the power to be one of those un-putdown-able books. I am completely obsessed with the tagline as well. How awesome does it sound? Not sure exactly how one is trained to be a surrogate, but I guess we will find out.

Juliette now knows she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she'll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew-about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam-was wrong.

Genre: YA/Dystopian

My Reaction
OMG, I cannot WAIT! Is it February yet? Oh please let February 4th come fast. I am dying to read this book and I don't know how much longer I can wait without losing my marbles. Actually forget that, I've lost my marbles a LONG time ago. But really, there are SO many ways this could end. Juliette could end up with Adam, or Warner or no one. She could end up being killed off just like a certain other female character who was recently killed off in a shocking ending to the trilogy.

After Unravel Me, I fell in love with Warner which was weird and funny at the same time. In Shatter Me, I thought he was a creepy dude who gave me the serious heebie jeebies. I adored Adam in Shatter Me. But Unravel Me changed that in a big way. I cannot wait to see where Tahereh Mafi takes these characters in the final book of the trilogy.

My Reaction
Oh my goodness, I cannot wait! The Program was my favorite book of 2013. It had everything a person could want in a book, especially the all-important feels. A whole lot of feels. After the way The Program ended, I have no clue what The Treatment has in store for us readers. All I know is that I need more of James, Sloane and Realm. I don't know how I am going to be able to wait until April to get my hands on this one.Which is why I am hoping that Edelweiss approves me for this title.
